Members’ event – guided tour of the Werdhölzli
2. September 2020 von 17:00 - 20:30
This event is exclusively for members.
Have you ever wondered where your garden and kitchen waste ends up? You throw them into the green container and then they are collected by the Grünabfuhr (green waste service). But what happens with it afterwards?
Your waste may end up at Biogas Zürich AG “Werdhölzli”. Biogas AG produces environmentally friendly, renewable energy from the biogenic waste. The renewable energy can be used by end consumers for heating, cooking or driving, or for producing electricity. This saves in carbon dioxide and improves the quality of life. You can find out how such a biogas plant works and what is required at this members-only event.
We are particularly pleased to welcome the Al Gore-trained Climate Reality Leaders to the event and to exchange ideas about climate protection together.
Meeting point: At 17:00 at the registration desk of Biogas Zürich AG, Paul-Pflüger-Strasse 104, 8010 Zurich.
Arrival by public transport: From Zurich, take tram no. 6 (or 17) to the Werdhölzli terminus, then walk approx. 10 minutes to the Werdhölzli fermentation plant (please follow the signs for “Vergärwerk”, not “Klärwerk”).
Program: We start with a one-hour tour of the fermentation plant site (VGW). Then we continue to the area of the sewage treatment plant, where we get an insight into the biogas processing plant (GAA). Following the guided tour at about 19:00 we will conclude the evening with a cozy, climate-friendly aperitif.
Suggestions: We recommend wearing washable clothes, as odor emissions can be expected in the plant. We also recommend flat shoes, as there will be uneven terrain and stairs to climb. For safety reasons, children under the age of 12 are not permitted to take part in guided tours. Since our plants are located at two locations around a kilometer apart and the connection route via the sewage plant’s high canal is used, a certain degree of personal mobility is helpful. Masks are required for the tour. If available, please bring your own, otherwise biogas masks will be provided. Please avoid shaking hands.
